This large relaxed roman shade was custom made by my upholsterer for my living room window which measures 54 inches long by 77 inches wide. The fabric is Waverly in the gray and white colorway. Sadly, my room is taking a different direction. The shade was made as one large shade for the entire window, not two separate shades and has a relaxed pleat in the middle. It's fully functional and can be used up (I have never extended the shade, I only use it for decor) or fully extended to cover your windows. It's lined with heavy privacy lining to eliminate light when extended.
Price is $150 or best offer. Contact me if interested at Bethany.Brower@gmail.com!

Sneaky Peak
I now work exclusively from home and was determined to make a space that felt professional but warm. I wanted to spread my wings a bit and try to remain completely neutral in the decor. Since we love color so much, especially large pops of it, I wanted to see if I could restrain myself and still find balance and whimsy within the space.
Here are some sneak peaks. Until, as with most things on our [new] blog, we get some professional photos taken of our homes and the projects we've done.
But most importantly, I had to properly document the bulldog's pink toe nails [in part because of all the waiting for her to fall asleep, tip toeing around to do it, and one ruined white fitted sheet]
Sweet Turkey Dreams!

Ombre
I just had my hair dyed ombre despite everyone's confusion, but I never do fun things with my hair so it was beyond time to switch-up. Ombre is just a graduation of colors and can be expressed by either varying shades of the same color (monochromatic) or with different degrees of color. It's been around forever and recently made a resurgance as part of the dip-dye movement in art and decor and mixes well with trends like chevrons and stripes. Ombre isn't just a trend for haircolor but has also carried through into home decor. I've seen dressers, walls, wallpaper and stairs being painted in an ombre colorscheme. All of it looks pleasing on the eye because it conveys a sense of movement.
This is one trend I am LOVING but am thinking I'll stick to just the hair. I can't see living with an ombre wall in any of my rooms for more than a month or two.

Thinking about MY style....
I've been a fan of color all my life, and although I make some bold moves occasionally in my choice of interior colors, I lean toward a spa-like retreat, a respite space of calm and sophistication. It is hard for me to pin point my tastes, because I am passionate about so many 'looks', but I think I'm more 'transitional', with a touch of modern. I grew up with Mid Century Modern in the 70's plus a house full of family antiques. I haven't fostered a love of antiques, but I like to mix a few in with every room to give it character and to keep it from being too 'New" and catalog-looking.

I like straight lines, textures, rich fabrics, leather, and architectural details. Comfortable but sophisticated, classy yet grounded and 'earthy'- all punctuated with lots of original art.
Here are some of the things I love... Let us know YOUR style!

First Item Offered for Sale!
In line with our mission, we are offering our first redecorating sale item!
This beautiful Turkish Mazar runner was purchased for my hallway, but I did not do my homework and is too wide by about 3 inches. It is 100% handknotted wool on a 100% cotton base and is in fairly good shape for an antique rug. The size is 2'10" x 8'6" .
The colors look a bit more rosy than real-life, as I could not get a picture that accurately captures the light blue hue in the middle (it appears slightly lavender in the picture. The colors are copper or rust, dark brown, light blue, cream and tan.

[please excuse the chubby bulldog in the picture]

Gettin Styled
So as we stumble through the process of getting up and running, we are searching for an image befitting of our style and personalities. Low and behold, it's not so easy. I'm soliciting the help of some designers who can put our style and tastes into a streamlined vision and while in the process of doing so, I started to think, what is our style?
Personal style is a funny thing, isn't it? There are facets of style that embody who we are; they are less easy to place and more easy to "feel". And then there are the things that we like and are pleasing to the eye, but it's not really "us" at our core. Take for instance trends. Everyone loves a good trend (and loves to hate them, too). Many times they start out feeling a bit odd or a little too off-beat, but when seen over and over again, they start to grow on you. But if you've never been 100% in love with a trend, and you want to incorporate it in your home somehow, it can end up feeling insincere and ill-placed. If you always go with what you love, it's never in or out of fashion. We all know that.
But back to personal style. There's so many terms floating around these days and it's hard to sum up my sentiments on style for myself. I can easily identify when someone's Vintage Modern, Eclectic Glam and of course the style of the moment, Union Jack'ed Industrial Rock. But I can't quite identify what my style is in two adjectives or less, because it varies. I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal, until it's time to really get cleaned up, and then I feel pretty comfortable in a pair of really high heels and lots of [fake] bling. And I want my home to showcase that same utilitarianism (partly because it has to - it's a small cottage and every inch counts!). I want my home to feel designed and inspired, but its imperative to me that it feels cozy and comfortable.
But when I look at interiors by Kelly Wearstler, or even other bloggers, I notice when a style is super distinct. Take for instance Amber from Amber Interiors. She's got that Global Bazaar meets Boho Chic thing down to a tee. And Christine at Bijou and Boheme is an obvious Flapper Pin Curls meets Hollywood Regency while Erika from small shop Studio has a definite 70's Palm Springs vibe going on.
I gathered my favorite, favorite images that's I've held onto both in paper and on Pinterest, so now the question begs, what is my style?
And lastly, my favorite mood board ever done, by a one Erin Gates at Elements of Style Blog. LOVE this style.
Wow - what a great exercise. I already see some patterns, most notably, MOODINESS :)

Welcome!
I'd like to welcome you to Powell Brower Home. Our mission is simple : to provide an online marketplace for buying and selling home decor and furnishings that have been previoulsy loved.
The high-gloss world of decorating mags, design shows, DIY projects and the ever-increasing presence of interior design blogs provides an excellent canvas to work and re-work our personal style. Our tasteschange evolve and our nests grow. And as we bring in new pieces, the dynamic of our rooms can change.
So why not capitalize on someone else's design mistake? Whether it's a custom roman shade or a upcycled masterpiece, we would hope it can find another happy home instead of the 'too good to throw away' pile at the landfill or the thrift store down the street. You paid good money for your things, so they must be worth something to someone else, too!
Having spent years rearranging and redecorating and constantly checking the sidestreets in boutique areas for the perfect consignment shops with high-end furnishings we decided to build it ourselves. Powell Brower Home will be offering previously owned art, lighting, furniture and accessories with a high-end flare mapping to current tastes and trends.
So with that, I encourage you to contact us if you have an item in excellent condition that you would like to advertise for sale. Otherwise, check back often to shop our latest 'finds'.
We look forward to helping you feather your nest.
